The Mid-American Conference added gymnastics to its conference for the 1981 season. Seven teams make up the conference, and out of those seven, six of them have claimed at least one MAC title, making it one of the most well-balanced, competitive gymnastics conferences. During its first 36 seasons, the MAC has been represented at the NCAA Regional Championships 23 times. In 2011, Kent State gave the conference its sole NCAA National Championships team appearance where it finished 12th in the nation. Over the past few decades, the MAC has become increasingly competitive on the national scene, sending multiple teams to regionals and qualifying individuals to nationals the past two seasons.
