Many thought the Pioneers would take a step back in 2017 after the graduation of national floor champion Nina McGee—the program’s first-ever NCAA title on the event. Also in 2016, the team joined the Big 12 conference from the MRGC. Despite the doubts, 2017 brought the team to new heights, qualifying to nationals for the first time since 2008 and only the fourth time overall. As a whole, the team has won two conference championships, one in the MRGC in 2014 and the other in the WAC conference in 2012. Successful alumni of the program include two-time Venezuelan Olympian Jessica Lopez, Moriah Martin, Brianna Springer and Ashley Shible.
